We visited this beautiful beach park yesterday.
Hamoa Beach, Hana, Maui
There were a lot of people out and about, so we retreated to our house to read, drink, snack, nap and watch DVDs of "Two Fat Ladies", a BBC culinary show. One of their recipes had to do with cooking pigeons (or some kind of small wild game birds). The method involved thickly slathering them with butter, stuffing them with a chunk of butter, and then wrapping them up with several slices of bacon. Suddenly our own holiday indulgences, not exactly a health educator's dream, didn't seem so bad.

I just read a book called Born to Run which makes brief mention of Smitty. He was also a runner. I lived on Maui for 11 years. I met Smitty once
and had quite a chat with him. I would like to research and write about Smitty. People like him should not just be forgotten...

Smitty was my uncle. He was always an interesting character. I was saddened by his death. He, by his own admission, had survived 4 marriages and 400 affairs prior to finding true peace and happinness in Hana.

Smitty was my Dad! He lived an extraordinary life, and was a source of inspiration to his family, friends and everyone he met.
He was a true visionary and a pioneer in the field of endurance running, triathlons and biking. Is greatest contribution is the example of how he lived his life. Letting go of material possessions, he devoted himself to living his life in nature, yet he always took time to pray with and help those in need.
smitty was a passionate writer. He completed two books, as well as hundreds of letters he wrote from his cave to family and friends.
My sisters and I will on be telling the story of my Dad's life.
